Embracing the Darkness of Halloween
Turning fear into insight and darkness into power
Halloween season marks the point when darkness overtakes the light.
It dares us to explore the darker corners of what’s still hidden within ourselves. Through costumes and scary stories, it becomes the reflection of a deeper truth:
We can’t understand our full light without first turning toward our shadows.
As an author of horror stories, I’ve learned that the scariest tales often reveal what we most need to see.
Monsters, phantoms, and curses are mirrors. They are symbols for humanity to understand their own reflection. This is the scariest thing for most people; that is, to see their whole selves.
Fear, when met with awareness, becomes the doorway to transformation.
🌀 Taking It In
Every culture has its stories of the dark: caves, underworlds, haunted forests, and creatures of the night. These stories remind us that fear is part of being alive.
In Lemurian understanding, darkness isn’t evil; it’s an aspect of wholeness. Light reveals, but shadow teaches. To reject it is to stay half-blind.
Humans can’t truly know themselves without meeting what they try to avoid. Fear strips away illusion. It humbles. It also liberates.
Once you face what you fear, you reclaim the power you had projected onto it.
👁️ Simple Shift
Fear to Smoke
You’ll need:
A small candle or tea light (flameless is optional for safety)
A mirror or reflective surface
A quiet space for ten minutes
1. Light the candle.
Notice the small circle of light it creates. This is your awareness.
2. Sit before it.
Take three deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth.
3. Name one fear.
Speak it softly. Don’t analyze it, just acknowledge it.
4. Look into the flame and ask:
“What is this fear showing me about my power?”
Wait. Let the silence respond.
5. When ready, snuff out the candle.
Picture the smoke carrying your fear. It’s not gone, it’s transformed.
Repeat as often as you feel called.
Each time you face a shadow, your inner light grows stronger.

Share your reflection in the comments or journal privately. Either way, give it a voice. Shadows lose power when they’re illuminated.
