How Light and Shadow Reveal Your Next Step
Using shadow work to spot obstacles and grow past them
Somewhere along the way, a lot of us learned that light is the goal. I grew up thinking having a shadow self meant I was failing spiritually. So I tried to keep my light shining, keep a fixed smile, and stuff down any trace of shame, doubt, or flaws.
So, we chase “high vibes.” We try to stay positive. We slap a spiritual smile over anything messy and then wonder why we still feel stuck. It’s like trying to walk with a flashlight in your eyes because you don’t want to admit it’s dark.
This message doesn’t just reassure us that shadow is normal, it tells us what shadow is for. It’s not punishment. It’s not proof you’re failing.
It’s contrast. It’s information. It’s the thing that helps you see what’s real, and what’s just fear talking.
You can watch the video of this channeled message in the podcast episode, Lemurian Channeling 🌊 For those scared of what they’ll find in the shadow.
🌊 Lumer Council Message
Welcome, it’s such a joy to be here with you once again.
We want to say how pleased we are with many of you. Maybe the word, pleased, isn’t what we really mean. People use the word pleased a lot. And it’s not like we’re giving you permission or that we’re giving you accolades.
How about, we’re with you and we’re joyous with you. That’s a much better phrasing, isn’t it?
So, we are joyous with you for all the work you’ve been doing and for all the creating you’ve been doing in the name of unity, in the name of love, and in the beauty and power of the light.
We also want to reiterate that with light comes shadow.
And in the shadow, we can see things even more clearly. And aspects of ourselves are revealed.
Sometimes these aspects scare us. Sometimes we may want to cringe back and curl in a ball out of fear, because we don’t want to see what has just been revealed.
Other times we’re celebrating. We’re celebrating our growth. The shadow also reveals that.
Whether fear or celebration, it is extremely important to sit in both light and shadow to reveal your true inner self. And then you’ll be able to grow and evolve and reach the higher consciousness that you are so close to now.
And don’t forget, and this is such a simple concept in all of nature and in all the Universe. When there’s light, there’s shadow. Where there’s shadow, there’s light.
So, with that in mind, use the balance of light and shadow for your benefit and for the benefit of those around you and in your circle of influence.
This balance will keep you healthy. This balance will keep you aware and in the moment. This balance between light and darkness is a wonderful balance.
For you can’t have one without the other. If we had no darkness, you would not be aware of the light. And if we had no light, darkness would not be revealed.
For when the light shines and there become obstacles in our way, those obstacles create shadows.
We’re talking both physically and metaphysically.
Use the light to identify the obstacles in your life. Then sit within the shadows of those obstacles and be aware of what’s being revealed by both light and shadow.
For once we begin seeing, really seeing and being aware of what our reality is, then we can take action. Sometimes those obstacles we see are really tools for our benefit or circumstances that are there for our growth.
Other times, being aware, we realize the obstacle really isn’t an obstacle. It was just in our imagination that whatever it was, was an obstacle. But in reality, it’s not affecting us at all.
And there’s other times the obstacles must be dealt with. So we deal with it.
And we know a lot of strategies. You know a lot of strategies to deal with it.
So, our message today is one of, do not be scared of the balance of light and darkness. Do not be fearful of yourself. Yes, it can be uncomfortable to see your true self at times, but only through doing this will you be able to grow and evolve.
So sit quietly in light and darkness. And sometimes sit noisily or run noisily through the light and the shadow.
Be yourself. Be you. Do the actions that come from your inner being. The light and the shadow will help you see what is to be done next.
For many of you have heard the story. You’re driving down a dark road. You only see a hundred yards ahead of you because of the headlights. You drive a hundred yards. You see the next hundred yards of where you’re to drive.
That is the way it works. Take one step and the next one’s revealed. Take three more steps and the next three will be revealed.
Let the light guide you. Let the darkness be revealed to help show you the obstacles that you will go through, over, under, or around.
Do not be disheartened those of you who feel the burdens that are around you. Light and shadow will help you realize, are those burdens really yours to carry? If they are, then the next steps will be revealed.
Are those burdens other people’s? Are they others’ that are not yours to carry at all? Then the next steps will be revealed.
May you go in confidence. May you walk in the light, through the shadows, and be you.
In Love and Light.
🌀 Taking It In
What I love about this message is how normal it makes the whole thing.
It doesn’t say “stay high vibe,” or “banish darkness,” or any of the usual spiritual perfectionism. It says that light and shadow come as a pair. If you’re alive, you’re going to meet both.
And the shadow isn’t only the stuff we’re ashamed of. Sometimes it’s the part of us that’s finally growing teeth. The part that says “no” more clearly. The part that wants to create but also wants to hide. The part that wants to be seen but hates the feeling of being perceived.
Shadow can be fear, and shadow can be proof that you’re changing. Changing scares me more often than I’d like to admit, but it’s not a sign something’s wrong.
There’s also a practicality in the way they describe how to live abundantly within both light and shadow.
Use the light to identify the obstacle. Then sit in the shadow it casts. Not to punish yourself, but to actually see what’s there.
Is it a real obstacle that needs to be handled? Is it a tool that’s strengthening you? Or is it an “obstacle” made of pure imagination, the kind that dissolves the moment you stop arguing with it?
And the “headlights on a dark road” metaphor is the permission I rely on. You don’t get the whole map. You get the next hundred yards. You take one step, and the next step is revealed. That’s abundant living in real life. Trusting the next move, instead of demanding certainty.
If this feels true, it also raises a practical question: Okay, but what do I do when I notice the shadow?
Because it’s one thing to agree with the idea of balance. It’s another thing to be in a real moment, a real mood, a real spiral, and know how to use it without getting swallowed by it.
So, here’s a way to work with light and shadow in everyday life.
🌱 SimpleShift: The Light + Shadow Check-In (90 seconds)
Find a quiet moment. Sitting is fine. Standing is fine. Even leaning against the kitchen counter counts.
Name the light (10 seconds):
“What is working right now?”
One thing. Keep it simple.Name the shadow (20 seconds):
“What feels uncomfortable or unclear right now?”
Also, one thing.Ask the obstacle question (30 seconds):
“Is this a real obstacle, a growth tool, or an imagined obstacle?”Take one headlight step (30 seconds):
“What’s the next hundred yards?”
Not the whole plan. Just the next doable step.
If you want to go one layer deeper, add this:
“Is this burden mine to carry, or am I carrying someone else’s?”
Try it now: Whisper the answer out loud. It lands differently when it’s not trapped in your head.

When you think about your life right now, what’s one “shadow” you’ve been afraid to look at?
And if you’re willing, what’s the next hundred yards, the one small step that feels true even if you don’t have the whole road yet?
Test the Shift 10% at a Time
If it helps you sit with your shadow for sixty seconds without spiraling or helps you spot one real obstacle and take one step forward, you’re invited to share 10% of whatever value that created.
I appreciate your support. It helps me keep sharing these messages and turning them into practices people can actually use.
You don’t have to choose between light and shadow to be whole.
You just have to be willing to see.
In Love and Light,
Merdhin

This makes me think of the concept of neutrality. How everything is neutral and we put the value and meaning into it.
There is light and dark, and we have decided dark is bad. But it isn’t, it’s neutral, and we can decide it to be good (or not wrong) and use it to grow.
